LADIES AND GENTLEMEN...
Official Press Release
Friends, Roamers, Gentlemen...
Lend them your ears. Many an idea is conceived in motion. Long days and nights traveling North America's highways in a pungent, cramped vehicle have inspired songs and books as well as love affairs, revolutions and new collaborations. The road can make men meek or half-mad. The Gravel Pit's spring '99 tour of the western half of the United States, where they were joined by Mike Gent turned some boys into Gentlemen.
The Fall of Troy
Mike Gent (Guitar, Vocals) is a member of The Figgs. The highly prolific Figgs are the emperors of the Albany/Schenectady/Troy music scene and are now based primarily in New York City. The latest release from The Figgs For EP Fans Only came out in Jan. 2000 on Hearbox Records. The EP is a preview of what will be the bands 8th full-length release.
Ed Valauskas (Bass, Vocals), Pete Caldes (Drums) and Lucky Jackson (Guitar, Vocals), Gravel Pit members all, have long admired The Figgs and their versatile frontman. The Gravel Pit, from Boston by way of New Haven, began playing shows with the Figgs in 1992. By the Fall of '99 the two groups shared musical tastes, a common language and the same weird sense of humor. Though somewhat alienating to the rest of society it only made their bond stronger and planted the seeds for a highly effective collaboration.
The Siege of Boston
The album was recorded in Boston at Q Division in four days during October of 1999 by Scott Riebling (Letters To Cleo). The songs were mixed by Scott in 22 straight hours at Fort Apache in Cambridge. Inspired by Frank Black and The Catholics the album was recorded live in the studio and therefore retains the raw, tense and very sweaty energy of the live shows. The final result is an album of 12 songs entitled Ladies and Gentlemen...The Gentlemen. Featuring 9 songs by Mr. Gent as well as the vocal and songwriting debuts of Ed Valauskas and Lucky Jackson.
The future of the Union
In spring of 2000 The Gentlemen will tour primarily in New York, New England and elsewhere in the east. The Figgs will be touring around their new EP and recording a new album for Hearbox .The Gravel Pit, not to be outdone, will be recording a new album for Q Division Records. The Gentlemen will continue to travel, write and play together whenever their other projects make it possible. Whether you like it or not.
The Rock that Gentlemen do Lives After Them.
