In case you missed it last night, here's Nippertown's hour long interview with the Figgs. They talk band history and upcoming gigs in the greater Albany area. |

I just realized last night that for God knows what reason, every show before Aug. 2001 completely disappeared from the Gig History page.
Although I was easily able to recover the text, hundreds of links to specific show pages need to be re-linked. I'll be working on it but may take a bit. Sorry for any inconvenience.

So I took the Press page down for a while to add, fix & reorganize it. Due to an unexpected event and my intense stupidity, the master list of press, publications, dates & web links I was working off of can no longer be accessed. So, before I hang myself I've decided to post what has been done so far.
Every bit of everything ever whispered about the Figgs through 1999 is up here. Gobs of newly unearthed press has ben added. Press that was already listed has been enhanced. All press now includes detail scans of articles so you can actually read this stuff on you little bitty phones and such.
Happy 6th anniversary to the Obsession and happy 34th Birthday to the Figgs
Hope y'all enjoy. G'nite cruel world

Yes, I am still alive and still slowly working on this site. Contrary to a lot of people's situation, Covid has given me much less time to work on things around here. Alas, I trudge ahead.
There are a few things I want to highlight coming up in the near future. First, Mike is playing a virtual show this coming Saturday 12.19 on Facebook. He will also be participating in a pre-taped event event, "The Covidtorium Holiday Concert". He and Lucky Jackson (Gentlemen/Gravel Pit) will join a lineup including Juliana Hatfield, Jon Auer & Ken Stringfellow, Lydia Lovelace, Peter Holsapple and many more.
On the website side of things, my executive editor has just let me borrow a treasure trove of archival clippings that will soon be scanned and added to the press page.
Thanks for your patience. Happy holidays and stay well!

Hey Figgs fans!
There are some new Figgs related news items to share with you. I'll be posting one per day this week.
I'll start with a benefit for hourly employees of Boston area music venues. Photographer Joshua Pickering is selling his prints to raise money at darkroombrightlights.org. One of them is a fantastic picture of Mike taken at this year's Hot Stove Cool Music show.
A great photo, a great cause, and a great nod to Depeche Mode in the title of the website!
Hope you are all well and I'll talk to you tomorrow!

Hey y'all! How's everyone doing? So, despite not leaving the house, I seem to have less time to whip the site into the shape I'd like it to be in. I figured I owed you an update anyway. So here goes. As you already know, due to the Covid virus, the boy's trip out to the Pacific Northwest has been canceled and the two April shows in Troy and New Haven are in doubt at this point. To keep spirits up, Mike has started streaming solo acoustic shows from his bunker. The next one will be Sunday, March 22nd at 5 est. Also, assuming it's safe to do so, the band plans on playing quite a bit in the second half of the year! so stay tuned. Along with staying up to date with setlists and such, I'm constantly adding newly found and exclusive photos. I've also added about 65 pages of info to dates on Mike's Past Shows. The latest video for "A Little Sip" has been added to the Video page as well. I'll be adding some new scans and updating a handful of titles in the discography very soon. Stay healthy, stay sane and spin some Figgs records to beat the blues! Cheers all! - Steve |

It's an important anniversary in Figgs history today. On November 18th, 1989 Pete Hayes made his debut with The Figgs at Our Place Pub in Saratoga Springs, NY. Happy 30th Anniversary, new guy! |

It’s Low-Fi at Society High’s 25TH Birthday today and YOU get a present!
Here’s a previously uncirculated show from March 20th, 1994. Recorded off the soundboard at Bogie’s in Albany, NY, this was the first show by the Figgs after recording Low-Fi in February. The boys are still on fire and playing tighter than a rusted bolt. This setlist features all but 3 songs from the album and has a few “new” song that were yet to be released as singles.
This album was my introduction to the Figgs and means the world to me. I’m thankful there are so many wonderful fans that feel the same way I do 25 years later.
(This link will only be active today. So don’t sleep on this!)

There’s been a flurry of Figgs news over the past weeks. I wouldn’t blame you if you missed something. Here’s your recap: - The Figgs announced the presale of their new album “Shady Grove” on vinyl and cd through an IndieGoGo campaign. If you haven’t done so already, go get yours! The band is currently working overtime to nail down the final details and get it off to the pressing plant. - The new single “Grab Your Pack” premiered with a video by Geoffray Barbier - A fantastic Figgs article appeared in Saratoga Living Magazine. It focuses primarily on the run-up to, and the album Low-Fi at Society High. The on-line version is huge! (If any out-of-towners need a copy of the mag, hit me up. I’ve got some spares) - Speaking of Low-Fi, Mike did an epic interview focusing on that album with the folks on the “Dig Me Out” podcast. ESSENTIAL LISTENING! - Mike just announced a few solo shows. Those were added to the Upcoming Shows page. As far as the site’s updates: - The last 2 months of shows have been updated with setlists, flyers, photos and such. - New to the Discography page are: the Ginger CD, Ear Tease promo, Retail Vision VHS promo, Mike’s appearance on Jed Parish’s new CD "Let It Please", more scans and an update on the Central Stumble single - The Press page was updated with the Saratoga Living write up, a new review of Ginger and a couple live gig reviews. From the way back machine, we added a feature from 2003 in Amplifier Magazine. Also, a quick review of Slow Charm appearing in Harp Magazine. - I’m still doing my best to add info to the individual member’s Past Shows pages. Guy’s is fairly wrapped up and Mike’s is (still) being worked on but it’s complete from 2015 to 2019. As Feargal Sharkey once said, “Here Comes the Summer” - S |

Yes, you're right. I have been ignoring you. I'm sorry. I'm so far behind where I'd like the site to be. I've had more ideas than free time in the past 6 to 8 months.
But guess what, The Ginger LP has finally arrived, the "Shady Grove Tour" has started and we'll be celebrating 25 years of Low-Fi in a few short months. I've taken this as a sign to get my ass in gear.
- Ginger's discography page has been updated
- The Upcoming Shows page has the most up to date info with links for tickets and such
- The past five shows have been updated with setlists, exclusive photos and the like
- A handful of interviews and show reviews have been added to the Press page with more to come
Thanks for staying with me. It will be a busy year for The Figgs and A Minor Obsession. Make sure you're checking back with us on the regular.

Hey, a real quick housekeeping note. "Mike's Past Shows" page will appear (for the time being) in the COOL CANDY CORNER dropdown instead of the SHOWS dropdown. Due to Weebly's setup, this will be a time saver for me while I work on getting those pages activated.
Thanks,

So, I've made it to the calm eye of the hurricane that is "moving out of state". I took this opportunity to catch up a bit.
A couple updates:
- The Bowery Electric show has been updated with photos, videos and a setlist
- Pete's Phases of the moon vinyl has been added to it's discography page with stats and pics of the LP's and test pressing
- Some press links have been added including the stream of Pete's interview on Craic radio from April
- A handful of shirts have also been added to the Historic Merch page
Go catch Guy with BLOCKHOUSES on tour right now in the Northeast. Pete will be touring the Midwest shortly and Mike is planning some West coast solo dates for the near future. Together, they've got you covered! Keep checking the Upcoming Shows page for all the news (and links) that are fit to print!

Good morning, campers. I just want to give you a heads up that it'll probably be pretty quiet (even more than usual) over here at the Obsession for a good stretch. I'll be moving to a new state soon and will have to prioritize all the upheaval that comes along with house selling/buying/moving. I will keep the Upcoming Shows page up to date but that may be it for a while.
In the mean time, this is what to look forward to in Figgs land. Mike & Guy have shows booked in August so, go catch those. The vinyl edition of Pete's Phases of the Moon LP should be hitting the streets soon. Late September thru October is shaping up to be a busy time with Guy having already announced dates in support of the new Blockhouses record. Mike and Pete should be announcing their own solo dates for the same time period soon. Look out Mid-West! I've also got my fingers crossed that we will hear some news about the Ginger LP reissue within the next month. Like most Figgs fans, I'm anxiously awaiting that one. The awesome folks at Peterwalkee Records usually do a very cool pre-order package that sells out fast. Be ready to pounce on that!
Thanks for bearing with me.

Hi kids! I'm gonna do all the plugging of product up top. 1.Go get Mike's June installment of his "Last Friday of the Month" Singles series! (here) 2.Have you pre-ordered Pete's latest 2LP set "Phases of the Moon" yet? Come on! Get on that! (here) The test press has been ok'd and vinyl should be ready to hit your mailbox in the not to distant future. 3.Guy's band Blockhouses have released a 2 track teaser off their soon to be released record. (here) Produced by Pete Donnelly, this thing COOKS!
Now, as for the site. The SHOWS page now has a dropdown where you can choose upcoming, or past shows from the Figgs or the individual boys. Like other things, I don't claim these to be complete, but you won't find better anywhere else on the interwebs. I will continue to add to them as I come across any missing shows. As always, if you know of something missing, drop me a line and help a brother out.
I've also posted a bunch of new gig photos that I got from Pete. Here are the dates: 1990.05.06, 1991.07.12, 1992.10.31, 1993.02.27, 1993.04.17, 1993.05.02, 1993.11.19, 1993.12.19, 1994.01.05, 1994.05.14, 2001.03.21, 2001.03.29, 2001.12.08, 2002.05.19, 2002.07.27
If you know who took any of these photos, please let me know so I can give credit. Thanks!

Pete has put up a pre-sale for the "Phases of the Moon" 2LP vinyl pressing. These will be hand numbered. So if you're into that sort of thing, go HERE quick!!!
I've been working on compiling a Gig list for each of the boys outside of Figgs shows. I should be putting it up shortly. It's been daunting and won't be complete from the outset but will be a work in progress. I really felt the need to show just how busy these guys are even in their extracurricular work. Plus, it helps my compulsive tendencies to have everything listed in one place.
I've also had the rare opportunity to visit Pete D. recently and should be posting some of my new finds in the next week or so. He also let me know that the Re-release of "Ginger" is coming along nicely and should be going to the test press phase fairly soon. Can't wait for that!!!!

Some hot news to temper these cold spring days. Pete Donnelly just released a music video for his new single "Dr. Richard". This song will appear on his New solo effort called "Phases of the Moon". Drop everything and get it here. Only 100 hand numbered CDs will be printed so don't delay!!! Pete will be playing a record release show at Boot & Saddle in Philly on 4/28 to celebrate. Speaking of shows, some new Figgs and solo shows have been announced! Head over to the Shows page for dates and info links. -S |

Hey kids! Time for an update.
The Figgs have been following a loose trend they've established over the years. Laying relatively low on the touring front and preferring to spend the coldest months mucking about in the studio. Pete D. is busy readying his fifth full length "Phases of the Moon". He's also in charge of the "Ginger" LP reissue project which is chugging along.
Mike has started a "Last Friday of the Month singles club" on Bandcamp.com and is continuing work on the next Figgs album. Last friday he announced a CD pressing of his latest solo record "Headphone Music". Only 100 pressed! Act fast! He's also lent vocals to a just released record by Paul Natale.
Both Mike & Pete have some solo shows coming up soon. Not to be outdone, Hayes also has a show with his gang of Maybe Sump'ms too. Go check out the shows page for all dates and links to further info.
I've been taking advantage of the relative down time by undertaking a semi-massive project. I'm remastering and re-editing all my Figgs bootleg audio and video. The direct tape and vhs transfers leave lots of room for improvement. I've also continued adding photos, press & Discog info to the site where I can. Going through all this stuff periodically leaves me realizing there are quite a few odds & sods that have no clear home in the current layout. Brainstorming on ways to feature these semi related items will continue. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks for sticking around!

Good things happen in threes. It seems Pete also releases music in threes! Today, he put a song from his new album "Phases of the Moon" (due in March) on Soundcloud. Then, an album he played on, recorded, mixed & mastered was released by Sal Cannestra (The Thirteen) today. For the trifecta, Pete delivered the final mixes of the sophomore Blockhouses record to the band. Damn Pete. Busy day!

My deepest apologies for disappearing for a while. Life keeps getting in the way of updating and adding to the site. It's not for lack of wanting to.
There's a few things I'd like to throw out there real quick before the next big update:
- Pete Hayes and his gang of cyclists are biking around Manhattan TODAY for the BIKE MS:NYC fundraiser. Here's a link to donate if you find yourself able to do so.
- Pete's two EPs and remastered debut solo album are now available to download through the Figgs store. Just in case you cant lay your hands on the CDs
- Mike's new album and bonus track have been added to his discography
- Future tour dates have been added and updated at the top of the SHOWS page
Thanks for sticking it out with me!

30th Anniversary celebration is rolling on with a new video! This one is of a song that had been kicking around since '88. It was finally released in '96 on the Banda Macho LP in a much different form. This video is also from a short strech of months between Guy's departure for the service and Hayes' hiring on Halloween. Meet Dorian Crozier. He went on to a music career playing and producing with everyone from Prince to Miley Cyrus.
Tech note: my apologies for the audio being slightly out of sync. I had to fix it using another program. Now it lines up in the video editor but not when I upload to youtube. This is my 6th try. Close enough. It's also the reason why it wasn't posted yesterday on the 8th. The show's anniversary. -S |

Well, I'm 2 days late in saying Happy 30th Anniversary to The Figgs but I'm here now. Plan A fell through. This is the start of plan B. I tried my best to nail down the exact date of the first time Mike, Pete & Guy first met and rehearsed. Although there are some differing memories of the sequence of events 30 years ago, everyone agrees it was August. What better excuse to have a month long celebration! To start off, I've put together this bombardment of memories soundtracked by the opener from my first and favorite Figgs record. Enjoy! There's more to come. - S |

Wow! I had a lot of fun on the Japan tour and I didn't even leave home. I can't imagine what it must have been like for the band. I've finished the "Japan Tour" page (located in the Cool Candy Corner menu) as best I could. If more photos, videos, etc. continue to pop up, I will add them.
Next month marks The Figgs 30th anniversary. I will be spending The rest of July focusing on putting together something special for the fans. I hope you'll like it. New tour dates have been announced and added to the shows page. So, go check those out. I'll be traveling to the Brooklyn show if you want to come say hi.

Hi folks! I'm sorry you haven't heard from me in a while. I'm still working on updating my live archive but in the meantime here are the quick hits:
- I'd like to wish a Happy 5th Birthday to "The Day Gravity Stopped" LP!
- "The Man Who Fights Himself" has been remixed and remasterd for LP. It sounds FANTASTIC! Pre-orders have begun shipping. Don't wait on this one. The band only pressed 150 copies on translucent red and 150 on black wax. Order here. The discography page has also been updated with photos and info.
- The Figgs have also released another download only live show. This time it's a short set from CBGB's in '93. Go get that one right here
- Pete D. and his wife were on HDTV's show Caribbean Life. You can purchase the episode from youtube here
- More photos have been added to corresponding show pages. A couple magazines have also been added to the Press page
- This site's facebook page recently cleared the hurdle of 300 followers. To the toppermost of the poppermost!
Thanks all,
-S

Well, the first shows of 2017 are in the books! Including the Figgs first ever show in Delaware. Only 9 more and they earn their 50 State Touring badge. Setlists have been added for these through the Shows page. The band also confirmed dates for a spring swing through the south. Go check ‘em out!
I’ve completely stolen an idea from my friend John and made a Spotify playlist of all the known cover songs the Figgs have played over the years. Here’s a link to that. Next up for me is a focused deep dive into all the live tapes in my possession. Tidy them up, digitize and edit where necessary. I still don’t know what I want to do with all of it. Suggestions anyone? I’m sure I’ll be sharing a few songs here and there as I go.

I am absolutely stunned by the news of Ted Collins’ passing yesterday. Ted played and recorded with the Figgs all over the northeast for the past few years. He was also a member of Mike’s Rapid Shave and Cement Bunny with Pete Hayes in college. I wasn't a close friend but I can honestly say that in the dozens of encounters we had, he always struck me as one of the most kindhearted people I’ve ever met. My heart truly goes out to his family and friends. Thank you Ted. We will miss you brother! -S |

Well, fixing 770 show pages took a bit longer than I imagined. All good now though. Now I can move on to bigger things. Here’s what’s new:
- Mike’s new Rapid Shave digital single has been added to his discography.
- I’ve finally gotten a track list for the unreleased 15 Golden #1 Hits album! Very excited about that.
- My friend Alex graphed out a bunch of stats from the Figgs show history. Please check it out and let me know what you think.
- The “Shortcuts” header has been changed to “Cool Candy Corner”. That’s where you can find the new “Live Data” graphs mentioned above. I plan to add a few more things to that dropdown menu in the near future.
- Handfuls of videos and photos were added to their respective show pages.
- In Figgs news, new tour dates have been added. Recording sessions for a new (possible triple!) record are going well. Mike continues to work on his solo album. An LP reissue of The Man Who Fights Himself is imminent.
A lot of great things to look forward to Figgs fans!

2016 wrap up: Whew, We made it! After all the personal heartbreaks & disillusionment 2016 wrought, The Figgs came in quite handy as an emotional life raft for me. I was lucky enough to see the boys 9 times in '16. Another 5 live shows were streamed, broadcast or released. They began the year with a new album and ambitious tour plans. By the end of the year they played 40 shows (the most since 2012), released an aditional single and live album plus started work on a new album and two reissue projects!
This site had a nice year too. I got the chance to visit the NYS and Saratoga libraries plus dig through Pete's stash of memories! I am really proud of The Show History pages and how they have really bulked up. Some new friends were made and new avenues for exploration were opened. Here's to many more additions to the archive and great surprises to come in the new year!
In the mean time, this is what's been added in the last few days:
- Exclusive photos from the New Year's show have been added. Thanks go out to my amazing wife for those!
- The BRAND NEW 04.16.16 Moorestown, NJ live album(s) have been added to the discography
- The trip to the Saratoga library yeilded some info for about 16 shows between '88 & '91. All that has been added in their respective show pages. Including the finding of a show on 1989.12.30 that wasn't on the list yet!
- 3 weeks ago I got my first smart phone. This site looks like a traiwreck on it. My apologies to everyone who primarily uses a phone to look at this site. I will try to remedy the layout soon.
Happy browsing!

Things will be quiet over here for a bit while I head out of town to deal with a family matter. I did want to update you on a few things first:
- Happy belated birthday to Peter Brady Hayes!
- This past weekend's shows have been updated with setlists and some exclusive photos. Thank you Eric!
- NYC fans! Be aware that, acording to the Mercury Lounge website, this Saturday's Figgs show will be EARLY! There is another show scheduled for 10pm after them. So don't snooze.
- I'm going to be at the Saratoga Springs public library on Wednesday Dec. 28th. If anyone wants to help me dig through old local news to post on this site, come on down!
Thanks,

Anybody else psyched for the December shows starting next week? I can't wait. With any luck, I'll make it to a few of them. In the meantime, just wanted let you know a few things. The Figgs are selling some rarities on their Ebay store for the "Figgaholic" on your gift list. Check back often 'cause they are promising some special treats.
Scans for the Magnet magazine article this past June have finally been added to the press page along with some tweaks to some show pages. I'm planning on visiting the Saratoga Library in December to do some digging for articles and early show listings. I'm still bugging Mike about peeking into his personal archive. That would be somethig else!
I'm messing with a few ideas about additions to the site. It would be great to get some input from you as well. Is there something that you think I should add to the site? Get in touch and let me know.
Thanks,

Update on the New Years Eve show with Guy Lyons:
Taken from the Figgs official site -
"Just wanted to give you the plan for our New Years Eve show up in Saratoga. Seeing that we are approaching 30 years working together as a band in 2017, we thought it would be fun to go back and do a sort of chronological, career retrospective show. So…part of the first set will feature music from the first 3 years, when Guy was our drummer, main songwriter and lead singer (1987-1989), along with material from when Hayes joined and before Guy re-joined (1989-1992) . The 2nd set will feature the current lineup and maybe some other surprises…who knows….Should be a special night bringing in 2017."

Lots to talk about today! The September shows are in the books and I was lucky enough to make it to two of them. Setlists and photos have been added for those. The new quick key has been added. Now you can see at a glance what is in a specific show's page. New tour dates are still being added through the end of the year. so keep checking back!
The full Figgs Haverford Music Fest set from 9.10.16 is up and streaming HERE. Also, Mike and Bill Janovitz's appearance on WZLX last week can be streamed HERE. They were interviewed throughout the show but the three songs they played live can be found at the beginning of part 2.
The brand new "This Time" single & The Needy Sons "Vis-A-Vis" album have been added to the discography page. Also, I've finally gotten my hands on the second edition of the "Low-Fi" cd. That's been updated as well.
My friend Rachael hooked me up with scans of the entire Skidmore News library. A whole mess of flyers, show reviews, photos and articles have been added to corresponding shows and the Press page. There was even a previously unknown show on Feb.5.93 that was unearthed.
One more thing. If you helped Darren Keith fund his show "DK the Gig" through Indiegogo, check your inbox and download "Those Bright Lights" & "You're Gonna Love Me When I'm Gone". Pete D. plays on and recorded these two songs.

After a long silence, I'm coming "down from the Ozarks". I'll start by sharing this little Scott McCaughey ditty featuring the man himself! Summer has been busy but now I can get back into a bit of a groove with this site. Since we've last spoken, I've focused on the SHOWS archive. I've added loads of photos and videos to the corresponding events. My thanks to Steve L, Joanne, Steve R, Andrew C, Sid, Andy, Angela & Doerthe for their talents. A quick key will be added to past shows in the next few days referencing the content of each show page as well. Also, this site turned 1 year old and The Figgs turned 29 last month. This should be a great year leading up to their 30th. Ideas, options & plans are being discussed as to what surprises are in store. In the meantime, go check out one of the 6 shows they will be playing this month! Thanks all, -S |

Today is the 20th anniversary of Banda Macho's release! Happy birthday Banda. I STILL love you to pieces!!!
I got to dig through a ton of old Metroland papers earlier this week. It was a daunting mountain of periodicals that I didn't come close to getting all the way through. The collection didn't go as far back or was quite as complete as I assumed it would be. Even so, I still got more than a handful of articles, blurbs and historic muckety-muck from '91 to '96. Someday I'll make it back there and continue the quest. Here's what I've got on this trip:
- 8 previously unlisted shows were added to the show archive
- I was able to narrow down the month of release for the Ginger & Ready Steady Stoned cassettes
- The Metroland cover story from '93 plus a few other articles have been added to the Press page
Thanks!

What's new you ask? Well, I'll tell you.
- I got a package from Italy today! Inside was the rare marble blue pressing of the Sponic 7". I can finally cross that one off the want list. Scans have been added to it's page.
- A VIDEOS page has been added under the "Shortcuts" header. It puts all available TV appearances and music videos in one place for you. If you have a dusty old vhs tape of anything missing from the list, I'd love to hear from you!
- WFMU uploaded the complete show from Monty Hall in Jersey city on 2016.05.21. Here's the Vimeo link.
- Mike confirmed that The Needy Sons debut album was in the mastering stages. Can't wait!
- Still plugging away at adding photos, vids & press to speciffic shows in the show archive section. Should be finished doing that a few days before the end of the world.
I'll be headding to the NY State library in early July to dig into their near complete collection of Metroland newspapers. Albany's version of NYC's Village Voice or Seattle's Rocket. The Press page should be getting a big bump from that. I've been looking forward to this for a while.
Until next time!

Hey Y'all. Not a ton to report on right now. Still driving myself crazy adding photos, videos and the last few setlists to the show archives. The internet is a big place and there is no end in sight. I'm also trying to work on transfering my Figgs vhs tapes to dvd. That is slow going as well. Aside from that: - The new Magnet Magazine interview with Mike has been added to the press page. - An Upcoming Shows section now appears at the top of the Show Archive page. It contains links to tickets, clubs, show times, etc. - The band just put up a handful of Low-Fi cassettes for sale at their store. Go snag one now. - The first video from "On The Slide" has been released. Check out "Connecting Brains" here! Seattle and Portland shows are only a few days away! Hippy Hippy Shakin' it in the northwest! -S |

Hi all. I wanted to quickly let you know a few things: - If you haven't already, head over to thefiggs.net and pre-order the new album "On The Slide" in whatever listening format you desire. - I've added a handful of things to the discography. Most notably, test pressings of "Badger" LP and "Other Planes". Other than that, I've been fixing, tweaking and coloring in some finer details on the Show History pages. I'll continue to do that for at least the next few weeks or so. I've got a lot of minutiae in the collection. Also, a few new additions and changes to the site are cooking but not ready yet. - A complete show from April 1st, 1995 was just posted to YouTube. A real scorcher. Check it out at the link here - I also just posted to YouTube what may be the rarest "Pete Hayes Time" caught on tape. Enjoy! -S |

Hey hey, my my! Here's what's new. This past weekend's shows are now up for view along with roughly 100+ more setlists (late 90's to mid-aughts mainly). More to come. The new album "On The Slide" was available for purchase at the shows and I got my hands on one. It's been added to the discography along with these other updates: - Live at the Double Door - FMQB August '96 sampler - You've Got Your Orders compilation feat. Mike - Shelby Lynne's "I Can't imagine" cd with two Pete D. co-written songs - Hayes' contribution to the "Land Of No" cd In the news, Pete D's acting debut as "Chaz" in the very funny pilot episode of "DK the Gig" is up on youtube. Check it out! The boys also messed around shooting a bit of video over the weekend with no specific plans for it as of yet. Be sure to go catch a Figgs show when they come to your town soon. Check the official figgs website for upcoming tour dates and any additions they will be making. -S |

Hey all! Lots and lots of updates to the site to tell you about. First off, I need to thank Pete D. for letting me rummage through his collection of memories. "Are you my dad's biggest fan?" Oof! Kids definitely call it like they see it. Now on to the laundry list of updates.
Discography
- Sucking In Stereo lp test pressing and black vinyl info and images added
- Low Fi lp test pressing info and images added
- Red Ginger cassette images and new info about it's release added
- Green wax Miss Velvet 7" images added
- God Bless America cassette sampler info and images added
- BMG Pop Promo 73 comp. added to the discography

Historic Merch
3 more shirts, a poster or two and a few stickers were added
Press
The Source cover story from April '96 and a glowing review of the 2012 CMJ show at Rock Shop were added
Show Archive
Last months PA shows have been added with setlist, flyers & and available photos. I'm finally done gathering (nearly) all available set lists.
Coupled with the cache of historic flyers recently obtained, the show archive will be lighting up quick! I've said it before but this time it's true.
Some cool original artwork and early mock-ups found at Pete's were added to the following:
Hi-Fi Dropouts
Badger
For EP Fans
Wasted Pretty
Incredible Casuals split 7"
Much to talk about in Figgs news. The band are currently selling some rarities on ebay to raise funds for the pressing of their newly completed LP "On The Slide". So far, items are being added a few at a time. So check back often. Tickets for the Figgs next show at Zumix in Boston on March 12th are now on sale. Mike will be pulling double duty as The Needy Sons will be opening. Speaking of the Needy Sons, they are in the studio now working on their first album.
Who else is in the studio? Blockhouses BABY! Guy, Chris & Jim are hammering out album number 2 with Pete Donnelly co-producing. There would seem to be a deluge of Figgs related releases headed our way. Can't wait!

Can't wait!

Aaaand we're back! Thanks for bearing with me while I attended to other things. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. seeing 3 of the last 4 Figgs shows (my family's present to me) made me quite jolly! Now it's back to work updating the site. Here's the rundown: - The last 4 gigs along with loads of setlists have been added to the show archives - Pete D's new album SOBRECARGA, the Dork Side Of The Moon cd sampler & Mike's appearance in Brett Milano's book Vinyl Junkies have all been added to their respective discographies - On the press page, the May '94 Billboard article is updated with scans. Also, a live review of the 12.12.15 Albany show has been linked - Two new t-shirts have been found and wrangled into the historic merch Of further interest, a kind soul has uploaded the figgs episode of Marc Maron's WTF podcast onto youtube (below and in the press page). Essential listening! Secondly, a great music blog named WILFULLY OBSCURE posted a collection of out of print Figgs Singles for anyone who is in need. They also gave a shout out to THE OBSESSION! Well, here's back at ya! most importantly, two songs from the forthcoming Figgs album have been officialy leaked to Soundcloud! "Your Smile Is A Deadly Thing" and "On The Slide". Oh yeah! Almost forgot! The Needy Sons (Janovitz/Gent/Valauskas/Anderson) will be playing Toad in Cambridge, MA for three nights Jan. 22nd, 23rd & 24th! If you find yourself within 100 miles of Cambridge, you owe it to yourself to attend. Then go to Philly on the 29th for the Figgs! More to come shortly. Stay tuned and thanks! -S 4.26.16 Update: the WTF episode featuring The Figgs has been taken down. |

Happy December everybody! The good news? Yes, I am still alive. The bad news? No updates to the site since the last time we spoke. I'm still trying to wrap up some projects as quickly as possible so I can get back here. If you endure this drought just a little bit longer, you will be handsomely rewarded. I promise! In the meantime...
- Pick up Pete D's new album here. Limited to 100 copies!!!!
- Go to a Figgs show in nyc, Albany, Pawtucket, & Allston and get into a holidaze!

How's it going fellers? A real quick note to update you on what's been added.
- The article from the Aug.'96 issue of Huh magazine is now available on the press page.
- Chunks of setlists from '94 '10 '11 & '12 have been added (like i said random and sporadic).
- Pete D. shared photos of three ancient t-shirts with me. Those are now up on the merch page.
Two notes of interest in Figgsland recently. first, the boys have started putting up limited items for sale in their web store. keep your eyes glued to their facebook feed for assorted treats. Also, the Needy Sons (yet another Mike Gent project) have just released their third digital single. pick it up here.
I've got a handful of deadlines leading up to the holidays. I'm unsure how much time will be left to make any significant updates to the archive. I'll still be tinkering around if you want to get in touch though.

Hi kids! all the 2014 dates are now clickable on the Show Archive page. It's taking longer than expected for me to tackle these in order with meticulous photo/video research. So, for the foreseeable future, I'll be updating set lists in a semi-random fashion with applicable photos/vids added sporadically. Thanks for understanding. In other update news, I took some constructive criticism from my "editor" and laid out the discography a bit differently. The releases with exclusive tracks are now separated from the rest of the compilations and promo releases. Also, some stickers were added to the historic merch page thanks to Mika!
A handful of new shows have been announced for December & January with the promise of more to come. Check them out here.

Well, the boys have just returned from a mid-west tour victorious. A good time seems to have been had by all. The Obsession even made a few new friends during the tour. Hi new friends! To thank them, I've updated the show archive page with the usual set lists, photos & vids as quick as I could. All the 2014 dates will be up soon. I'm grinding away at the remaining 325 dates I have info for. Slow and steady I suppose.
Six more shirts have been added to the historic merch page as well. If you have Figgs artifacts that you want to share, come on over to the contacts. Thanks!

Howdy. Apologies all around for going semi-silent these past few weeks. End of summer/begining of (pre)school commitments kept me away. I have been working on things the past couple of days. All 2015 listings on the show archive page now have clickable links to setlists, flyers and photo galleries where possible. New scans of the 1994 spin magazine review, the 1994 CMJ magazine cd bio and a God Bless America advertisement have been added.
Do you want to know the best part...? Fan contributions have started to come in. New pics of a sonic undertones t-shirt (thank you Chuck), a flyer for the dec.11.1992 show (thank you Sarah), Simpsons inspired t-shirts and a Banda Macho review from Crossbeat magazine (thank you Mika) have also been added. A huge thanks goes to Jackson for hooking me up with a test press of the Figgs/Prisonshake 7". He also provided me with a setlist and photos from an instore performance the Figgs did at his shop in 1995. Please visit him at flippedoutrecords.com and let him know how awesome he is!

Hey all! Thanks for the warm reception last week. It means a great deal to me. A quick note to let you know I've just added the historic merch page. It will be the collection point for non-audio offerings by the band. The track listing has been corrected for Mike's "Received" cassette & I've added the Oct.2015 high times article to the press page. That's on news stands now. Go pick up a copy.
Next stop...Putnam Den in Saratoga 8/28. I hope to see you there!

Hello! Hello! Hello! Welcome to A Minor Obsession. Glad to have you visit. Last December, I was talking with some friends about the fast approaching 30th anniversary of the Figgs. We all had the similar thought: "wouldn't it be great if the band released (x) to celebrate." I started looking at my own collection and, with some inspiration from two of my favorite websites, realized that I could create an archive to celebrate and share. So, in honor of the figgs first performance 28 years ago today, I am launching this site. My hope is that it will become an invaluable information hub for all things Figgs. No longer will fans have to go five pages deep into a Google search to find what they are looking for. It'll be collected here. In the days and weeks to come I'll be adding setlists, photos and video tothe show archive page. I'll continue adding to the press clippings and a historic merch page is just around the corner. This site is built and run by a fan for fans to enjoy. Although this not an official band site, I made sure to get the blessing of all four members before starting it. If you want to share your Figgs with me, drop me a line using the contacts page. Thanks! -S |
